Good Update On the Radioactive Iodine

Follow-Up Visits

We wanted to get an update out to you since about a month has passed since the radioactive iodine treatment was given to Judah. Over the past couple weeks, I (Deborah) have been with Judah to the children’s hospital for two follow-up visits including scans of his body and neck. Information from scans done immediately following this treatment are considered highly reliable because of how observable the radioactive isotopes are with their equipment. (-:

Scan Results

The scans confirmed that the radioactive iodine has indeed been absorbed by thyroid cells in various areas of his neck including lymph nodes on both sides as well as some of the residual thyroid tissue that couldn’t be removed during surgery. The radioactive iodine will remain in his body for many months to eradicate any remaining, suspicious thyroid cells.

Future Plans

Late last week, there was some discussion about another surgical procedure to remove additional lymph nodes showing a heavy concentration of thyroid cells. But upon further reflection, the medical team decided to wait a few more months, allowing the radioactive iodine time to do its job, thereby avoiding another surgery. The next ultrasound in the summer should give us intel on the progress of the radioactive iodine in his neck.

Praise Report

We continue to rejoice that the latest scans confirm no involvement anywhere else in Judah’s body and that all the activity was contained to his neck. This continues to be a massive praise report!

Family Devotions

In light of this, our little Dombach clan in Texas continues to contend in prayer each morning as we gather around the breakfast table for family devotions. We are pressing in with faith-filled prayer, declaring that God’s perfect will of healing be completed in Judah’s body.
