Scans All Clear and Another Radioactive Strike…

Clear Scans

We spent all day last Thursday in Houston. After they completed a whole load of scans in the morning the results came in: there is no disease showing up! Yay for Judah and thanks be to God. We are grateful!

Radioactive Iodine

But because the primary cancer marker in the blood still showed a slight elevation, we elected to go with their recommendation to do another round of radioactive iodine Thursday in a pre-emptive attack mode against anything still happening at the cellular, microscopic level that they can’t see or confirm with scans. We like aggression!

Overnight Monitoring

Following the iodine dose, we left him at the hospital overnight and Deborah drove down and picked him up the next day after his nuclear signature had diminished. Over the last week, we followed the same protocol as last time and he has kept about 5 feet away from us while the radioactivity wore off.

Follow-up Scan

Yesterday, he had a follow-up scan to check on the progress of the radioactive iodine and all is well. We all believe this to be the final, annihilating blow to thyroid cancer cells in Judah’s body.

Judah will board a plane

Today, Judah will board a plane (alone!) and fly from Houston to Harrisburg, PA where he will spend the next two weeks with family and friends, including the annual church youth group beach trip which has always been a high-point for our kids.
